Baby Mama/Huntress Extraordinaire

We adopted Reya in mid July of 2008. We thought Juno might need someone to play with, so we asked if all her siblings were still spoken for in their original homes. They were all happily settled, but Juno's mommy was still living as a stray behind a shed in Corning. Megan met her to see if she was nice and was smitten.

The best guess is that Reya was born in April 2005, was abandoned or lost within the year, and started having litters of kittens right away. The vet thinks she's had at least 3 litters.

The vet was very impressed Reya was able to regain a healthy weight, as a stray, so soon after having kittens. She called her 'huntress extraordinaire.'

This is one of our first pictures of Reya. As you can see, she was very pleased to find herself in a home.

She enjoyed especially the dry, safe surfaces to lounge on.

...although it was hard for her to kick her habit of hiding under things and keeping lookout.

She still keeps a lookout, but it is while making patrols of the townhouse, not hiding.

She also seemed pleased with the many opportunities for recreation.

However, we were a little intimidated by her 'play.' This piece of yarn she bit cleanly in half.

We had to spay Reya pretty soon after we got her. She had already gotten pregnant since we had adopted Juno. This is her recuperating.

Unfortunately, Reya got a bad eye infection right around when she was spayed. She had to be quarantined.

Megan was so happy when Reya finally recovered that she gave her a present - a nice cardboard box to play in. Reya uses it mainly to put her toys away and hide them from Juno.
